Sweet and Sour Sauce with Vegetables Restaurant Style

This Chinese sweet and sour sauce tastes just like the one you get in a Chinese restaurant. The sauce with stir fried vegetables and tofu served over noodles is an easy weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  1. 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  2. 1/3 cup brown sugar
  3. 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  4. 1/8 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder
  5. 1/8 teaspoon salt
  6. 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  7. ¼ teaspoon pepper flakes
  8. 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  9. 2 tablespoon corn starch
  10. 2 tablespoon water
  11. 1 14oz can pineapple chunks in unsweetened juice (drain the pineapple keeping the juice)
  12. 1 cup pineapple juice

Directions

  1. In a small bowl mix the water with the corn starch and soy sauce.
  2. Mix together until there are no lumps.
  3. Place 2 tsp of oil in a wok
  4. Mix together the pepper flakes, ginger paste and five spice.
  5. Sauté for a few minutes then add the pineapple juice.
  6. Add the brown sugar, rice vinegar and salt.
  7. Then mix in the tomato paste, followed by the corn starch and soy sauce mixture.
  8. This mixture will take about 5 minutes to thicken, empty into a bowl.
